Early Orthodontic Treatment
|
|
As orthodontists we adopt the current findings of facial development to our treatment. Therefore we use - among various appliances – a special appliance, designed at the Universitiy of Turin ( Italy), which gives us excellent results.
The following applies to children of preschool age with milk dentition as well as to school children with mixed dentition: the early treatment of malocclusions enables a better development of the upper and lower jaw; this leads to a harmonic facial development. We start the treatment when your child is ready to cooperate.
Based on our experience we know that there is an ideal period for every child to start treatment; regular visits help to build up confidence to your child.
Description of Removable Appliances |
Description
Removable appliances
are made of acrylic and wires; for the time to be
worn the patient inserts and removes the appliance
himself.
There are appliances
which have an effect on one jaw and there are appliances with
simultaneous effects on upper and lower jaw.
Treatment with removable
appliances is usually done during the mixed dentition
period, when not all permanent teeth are yet in;
it is a reasonable pretreatment for the then following
fixed appliance.
Removable appliances
are worn in the afternoon and during the night.
The more they are worn the better. Many children
wear the appliances all day, except during meals
and sports. Some children which are especially good
in wearing them are even able to eat with the appliance
in the mouth - they are rewarded with a quicker
result.
You clean the removable appliance with a toothbrush
and toothpaste under running water and keep it in
a special box.

Appliances
with Simultaneous Effects on Upper and Lower Jaw
These appliances,
which are usually loose in the mouth (tissue-borne),
put the jaws into a new position to each other,
correcting the malocclusion through muscle impulses
(functional orthopedics).
