Multiloop Edgewise Archwire (MEAW) according to Prof. Sadao Sato
University professor Sadao Sato (Kanagawa Dental College, Yokusuka, Japan) developed this technique at his university department. This technique is scientifically proven and well documented. In regular meetings with Prof. Sato we are updated with the current progress of his technique.
After having worked for many years with the traditional way of fixed orthodontics (straight-wire technique), we now completely switched to the „Sato-technique“ due to better treatment results, being able to keep the premolars and to do orthodontic treatment only in many cases, classified in the traditional orthodontics as surgery cases.

The premolars are kept because they are very important for the control of the movement of the lower jaw. Crowding is resolved through uprightening of the posterior teeth and arch expansion, avoiding unwanted proclination of the anterior teeth. The custom-bent wire for every patient allows single tooth movement in all three directions in space and a changing of the occlusal plane. The changing of the inclination of the occlusal plane is the pre-condition for mandibular adaptation.

Every month the wire is adapted to the individual situation to change the position of the lower jaw. Patient cooperation, ie. wearing the elastics, is mandatory.
